Picking stones from a bin and positioning them precisely on pins with GuideNOW High-Precision.

Customer: Beko
Location: Poland

Challenge

Beko aimed to automate the task of picking and placing stones during the production of washing machines. This process presented several challenges:

  • The stones had irregular shapes and unpredictable positions, making them difficult for traditional robotic systems to handle.
  • The manual delivery of parts introduced variability in their placement, further complicating the automation of this step.
  • The robot had to be flexible enough to adapt to the movement and irregularity of the stones without requiring extensive programming or adjustments.

Solution

GuideNOW High-Precision was chosen to meet the high accuracy demands of the application. A 3D camera was mounted on the End of Arm Tooling (EOAT) of a FANUC robot. With GuideNOW’s advanced real-time localization capabilities, the system was able to detect the position and orientation of the irregularly positioned stones and adapt the robot's trajectory to pick and place them with precision.

This solution allowed Beko to automate the stone picking process without needing expensive modifications to the production line, significantly reducing both material and integration costs.

Benefits

  • Cost-Efficient Automation: No changes to the existing production environment were required, minimizing automation costs.
  • High Precision: GuideNOW’s real-time 3D vision ensured accurate handling of irregularly shaped stones.
  • Flexibility: The system can quickly adapt to new part variants and positions without complex reprogramming.
